Bless This House Attends Stucco Workshop
December 14, 2008 Macomb, IL.
Ron Green, owner of Bless This House Inspections, has just returned from a specialized Synthetic Stucco training seminar. Held in Boulder, Colorado, at the headquarters of the InterNational Association of Certified Inspectors, this seminar focused on the popular and problematic Exterior Insulated Finishing System (EIFS) method of construction. This technique is frequently used on new commercial buildings, and on some residential structures. There have been numerous moisture problems with this construction method. Consequently there have been a number of methods developed to retain the energy-saving and aesthetic advantages of EIFS while eliminating the moisture problems.
It is important for the potential buyers of stucco-clad homes and buildings to know what type of synthetic stucco construction is present on their structure. Not only that, but there are many finishing details that can make the difference between a healthy building that will last, and one that will be a big problem down the road. Even the newer, better systems can be installed incorrectly. What makes these systems a problem is that moisture that does get into the walls generally has no way to get out. Proper detailing, sealing and drainage in much more important in these systems than in more conventional construction techniques.
Bless This House is committed to bringing the finest in Inspection services to Western Illinois. With the addition of this training in both Polymer-Modified and Polymer-Based, EIFS, One-Coat and Direct-Applied Stucco, Bless This House has added an important skill to the inspections they offer.
